The Donuts of Doom is in the same category as much of the writing of Terry Pratchett and James P. Blaylock. It deals with serious issues in a humorous and whimsical manner. And did I mention recipes? Recipes for all the cookies, biscuits, hotcakes, pies and donuts mentioned in the book are provided in an appendix.

I bought this book after reading another by this same author. The other was fantastic! This one, interesting. It is kind of like a Terry Prattchett novel. It is a fun read. I will say it, at times, left me wanting more, as if it was almost there . . . but missed it by just a tad. However, I did enjoy the novel, had fun reading it, though it wasn't exactly what I suspected.Would I buy it again, knowing what I do now. Yes, I would. However, I'd not have had such lofty expectations. There is only one Terry Prattchett, however, this comes close at times.

"Mike the Magnificent, Author Extraordinaire, Illustrious Weaver or Yarns, Mighty with a Pen, Premium Story Teller, Writer of Wonder. One book only. Don't miss it!" This book just kind of draws you in, and makes you chuckle. Mike's "The Donuts of Doom" was well worth the price! I'd also suggest his "The Queen's Martian Riffles", it will not disappoint!
A rather satirical look at politics and revolution through a humorous steampunk setting. There is abundant humor and sarcasm that makes this book shine while keeping it easy to read.
When I got this book, I was hoping for another Terry Pratchett. Unfortunately, the author is no Terry Pratchett. The ideas are original, and I like where he took the book and the ideas he is espousing. Here here for standing up to government control over food choices! I probably would have liked to book a lot more if I hadn't read the write up.
Bizarre and fun. A saccharine romp through a strange world. Read it while eating a box of donuts. It'll make them taste better.
Don't be put off by the lame cover. This is great reading. Pratchet and Red Dwarf stirred together in a delightful soup.
An original premise, very amusing extrapolation of present trends in govt intrusions into healthcare. Some of those recipes at the end of the book look good, too! I'd go a little lighter on the "porcuswine lard," though. ;)
Should people be free to make bad choices?
That is the question addressed in this book, albeit in a humorous and pleasant way.
This is a steampunk novel land-trains, airships, guns and other pleasant steam-age equipment, together with critters like dwarves, gnomes, and surfer elves!
